Dale Earnhardt wins his first Daytona 500

         


After twenty years of stock-car racing. Dale finally won his first 500, Nascar's main event on this day in 1998.

Dale Earnhardt was born on April 29, 1951, in Kannapolis, North Carolina, his dad was a race car driver too, Dale dropped out of High School to pursue racing, in 1979, he was named The Winston Cup (now called the NEXTEL cup) Rookie of the Year. The next year he Captured his first Winston Cup championship, a title he kept winning for years, in 1986, 1987, 1990, 1991, 1993, and in 1994. Earnhardt won the nickname "The Intimidator" for being such a fierce competitor, he also turned NASCAR into one of America's most popular sports.
