New York Yankees purchase Babe Ruth

George Herman "Babe" Ruth, was one of the greatest baseball players of all time. On this day in 1920, the   New York Yankees purchased this amazing batter, pitcher and fielder from the Boston Red Sox for the price of $125,000.

All of his years he played 6 seasons of Baseball with the Red Sox, winning them three World Series victories. On the mound, Babe Ruth pitched a total of 29 2/3 scoreless World Series innings, which set a new record that would stand for 43 years. Ruth was leaving a sensational 1919 season, having broken the major league home run record with 29 in a season, and led the American League runs-batted-in record with 114, and 109 runs. Along with playing over 100 games in left field, he also went 9-5 as a pitcher. With the New York Yankees Ruth earned $10,000 a year. But then he demanded a salary raise and the Yankees agreed. Alex Rodriguez's contract gives him $275,000,000 for his 10 year contract, about $27,000,000 a year and close to $169,000 per game, comparing a dollar is about $11 from the 20s and 2012. Babe Ruth a great baseball player plays his last game in the Red Sox uniform at Goodall Park in Sanford, Maine, Ruth hit a 3 run Home run to win the game, Ruth died in 1948 August 16th at the age of 53,
